I'm just wondering - what reason should you start a blog and what sort of work should you be prepared to put into it to make it successful?

I see literally THOUSANDS of peeps online blogging and can't understand why half of them figure I should pay attention...

Some people just blog their personal lifes.
Other blogs work like newspapers for specific topics.
And the most important maybe, for advertising.
Blogs are becoming so popular, therefore, are excellent advertising machines.
Myspace, MSN spaces, blogger and wordpress are the most popular in Advertising.

Another good thing about blogs is they rank well in search engines because of the fresh content. SE's love that.
I also heard that maybe blogger's blogs rank well becuase they are owned by google?

I used to own a popular blog, til I sold it, but anyway, I used blogger and I got lots of Se traffic, about 200,000 hits a month just from SE's, mostly google and google images.

Yes, SEs love fresh content and blogs.
That's why are excellent advertising tools, blogs are easy to be found by a SE. I saw a couple of times my blogs listed at 5th and 9th places of Google results.

anyone think it's going to burst, tho... I mean, you can only have so many peeps blathering about stuff that's going to be interesting... and readable!

I started bloging because I want to publish my knowledge.

If you really have something to say every day - or every couple of days - then a blog is a good thing. Tons of people just use them as a diary of sorts. For business, its a good way to have fresh content.

I have some strong backlinks to my sites from my blog.
