What is this "buy and sell signatures" thing? - Webmaster Forum

Sorry - I've never heard of buying and selling forum signatures. Is this where you pay someone to advertise you in their sig? Or pay them for the right to use their stuff in your sig? (Do I owe someone money for the mangled Rush quote?) I'm All Confusled...

Its where you pay someone to advertise your website in their signature(s).
It can be very effective/targeted. Some of these people have 1000's of posts on many popular forums.

I wonder if people do avatar advertising?

hmm... probably the avatar would not work as well due to some boards disabling the picture option - whereas the sig, being just words, works anywhere...

I'd be interested to see how effective it is in the long run for money...

Yea, I've never really used a signature either. It's an interesting idea to sell signatures, something I think I haven't heard of before either.

Some forums you are not allowed to put links in your signatures. I'm not sure if you are allowed to here. It is a good way of increasing your exposure and increasing Search Engine Optimization by getting highly targeted links to your website out there.

I never knew you could sell your signature space!

Maybe this place should be called Buying and Selling sig adspace.
I try to advertise in sigs a lot myself, in the entertainment niche graphical sigs can really help getting traffic from other community sites.
