Default Do the colors matter?

For your google adsense ad?

I've heard people say that it should match or blend in with your site so it looks like an integral part of it. And I've heard people say it should stand out so more people notice and click on it.

What do you think?

I think you have to find a blend between having something garish and something that draws the viewer's attention - having bright pink on a purple page might be a bit much, but brown on a red page would just soak in...

tasteful, yet intriguing!

Hmm... I agree it shouldn't be a harsh contrast or people will just find the site unattractive. I tend to stick with complimentary background colors and border colors and maybe make the actual links stand out more.

it also has to look professional - just slapping colorful images wont' really do much if your site is about something serious, like cancer prevention. It's all in the first impression as your site comes up!
